Haulage aid

I’m excited to learn that word is spreading about the Lost arts of The Republic of Singapore exhibition that will be presented at Pop-up Singapore house in September here in London. Thanks to Geraldene and to all the people she contacted in goodwill! I am at the moment still on the lookout for haulage sponsors for transporting the objects to and fro. Some confirmed objects which the craftsmen have kindly agreed to contribute are:
1. 3 big chinese hand-painted lanterns
2. 1 dragon head(1 to 2m)
3. A number of small chinese lanterns(20″ x 15″)
4. Medium sized joss sticks(25″ x 6″)
5. Woodclay sculpture figurines (7″ x 5″)
6. Tapestries

If anyone has contacts with haulage companies, please send me an email on how I may contact the person-in-charge. Thanks very much! In the midst of preparation and we are full steam ahead!

An exhibition at Milk Tea & Pearl(London), a bubble tea shop, was held in January 2012 to celebrate Pao’s second year of life. Titled Phenomenon No.II(as a major Phenomenon happens on every birthday of Pao), the narrative was created with context of the exhibition space in mind.

It has been some time since I wrote a diary entry, I cannot remember the last time I did. So many things has happened since. I cannot recall all of them, despite my huge head. Please pardon me. And my head. I am now two years old, although I do not see any significant signs of physical growth, but logically and emotionally, like a full grown two year old carrot, I am a tad more mature. IMHO. I think I will still look the same ten years pass, the same old me, the same old wedge head carrot(odd), but perhaps a little more vulnerable inside. I will still be asked by strangers(and carrots) who am I, what do I do, and maybe even why am I here. The answer to the last I do not have. I still witness signs and Phenomenons occasionally. Sometimes they appear as ordinary objects and I miss them, sometimes they stand right in my path. They will point the way and lead me, I faithfully believe. I have learnt that sometimes you need to have faith, in things and people. For example, having faith in my sharp teeth that they will not hurt you. Peace. I guess that is one important lesson I have learnt as a new year beckons. If you ask me about my future, my ambition, my dreams, well, look at me, I am a wanderer. A hermit. An explorer. An unclassified. A subculture.
A ‘non-A’.

I cannot envision myself staying in one place for too long. I cannot be permanent. I wish to see with my very own eyes, unique as they are, this world I have been put into, every corner of this planet, I wish to lay my feet, wave my flag and speak its language. Perhaps one days when I have accomplished this, then I can enter the parallel universe and continue the next phase of this never-ending journey. Fear of the unknown I do not have, for I do not give thought to these things. My friends? I believe they will be wherever I go. X, R, Whao and PE. I also hope to find the village of my ancestors eventually. More wedge head carrots, in other words. They must be out there somewhere. And the Phenomenons will lead me to where I truly belong.

P.S. You have heard of 353, haven’t you? If you have observed, the number 3 looks like my right eye. We encounter 353s everyday without noticing them, but it could be the clue to what lies ahead for me–Phenomenon No. III. I have to find out the connection between the number 3 and my facial feature. If you happen to spot these three numbers sitting next to one another, please take a picture and send it to me. Remember to note down the exact location as well, so that I can pay a visit to the place when the time is right. I look forward to your good news.

January 2012 – o R B

//Pao wakes up on his 2nd birthday to find a new extension in his hut //It is a room. The entrance is a pristine white square wall encapsulating a rather small white door, visible only by its gloss varnish and the sparkling brass door knob it holds firmly in place. This is a sharp contrast to the towering straw walls. Seems like it is going to be a dazzling start to this special day for Pao //On the horizon miles away from the glistering sea, small round objects are sighted falling from the sky. They make silent miniature explosions as they disappear into the calm water surface below //X is occupied with his conscientious analysis from the treetop. A Phenomenon. Yes, a Phenomenon will take place today. But where? And when? To whom. X surveys the sight before him. Each explosion made his heart skip //Pao turns the door knob. A flood of white light rushes forward and drowns his senses. He could not have seen or felt the vicious swirling that was in motion at the corner of the room. It was like a tornado running on the spot //At this moment, Whao and R entered the room. This invited the next rush of color and all three of them were enveloped by a bright expanse of yellow. Soon, they will slowly make out the figure of a yellow orb sitting silently before them. It is almost the height of the square room, as tall as the towering straw hut walls.

//No, this is not the real Phenomenon. It has already arrived, X can sense. He shifts his cap swiftly in the sequence of 1/2R, 2L, 3/4R and 1/2L*. A yellow orb. A giant one. That is the real Phenomenon //Elsewhere, miniature yellow orbs were settling in the crop fields around Pao’s hut. Now tilt your head to the right and squint your eyes. Those hills and valleys in the distance aren’t spared either. With a mighty telescope, you might be able to spot one peculiar yellow orb which looks slightly different. Ah. Can you spot R inside? I wonder where he will eventually land. We all wonder //Oh no. Whao has taken a bite off the giant orb. It doesn’t look any tasty from the look on his face. But what can you really say about Whao’s facial expressions, knowing that he is pretty much nonchalant. What is your personal opinion about putting foreign objects into your body? //PE are running around frantically in the crop fields. One PE, however, is staring oddly at three yellow orbs snugged comfortably in a pea pod hanging from a branch. It is already odd enough that being a pea pod, PE has only one pea. Yellow peas was pushing it, no?

//And finally, Pao walks up to the giant orb. He can sense a low humming from the inner depths of the orb. Raising his feeble hand, he gently smothers the surface, which felt very smooth. It was as if Pao knew that somehow, this action will reveal the orb’s true appearance. Then it happened. Three numbers 353 slowly appeared on the surface of the orb. The number 3 looks quite like the right eye of Pao! What does 353 represent? We have to find out.

* X has a habit of concocting different permutations of cap-shifting when he is in deep analysis mode. The numbers indicate the extent of cap-shifting, with 1 being a full 180 degree shift, R&L=right & left. This cap-shifting action aids my observation and deduction, X says.
